Chapter 298 The Breaking Point
Chapter 298 The Breaking Point
Jade straightened her back slowly. She stood her ground, not moving an inch.
Hudson saw the look on her face and tried to intervene.
“It’s just a chessboard, Jade. Go get it. Let’s not make a scene.”
Jade took a deep breath, swallowed her pride, and went upstairs for the board.

She finished several courses, leaving a pot of soup to simmer on the stove.
She stepped away to the powder room for a moment. When she returned, she found the staff had already moved her dishes to the dining table. Bert, Hudson, Emily, and a handful of cousins were already seated and eating,
Jade’s face went cold. She walked to the head of the table.
“This meal was for John. You couldn’t wait for the guest of honor to arrive?”
Bert didn’t even look up. “He is stuck in traffic. He’ll be a while. We were hungry, so we started. You can just make another round when he gets here.”
Jade’s fists clenched. She finally saw it for what it was. Bert had been orchestrating this from the moment she walked in-treating her like a servant for sport.
Bert glanced at her, picked up a piece of the glazed ribs, and made a face of pure disgust.
“This is over-seasoned. It looks charred.”
He tossed the meat back onto the plate. “I’ve lost my appetite just looking at it.”
The relatives, sensing the shift in power, piled on.
“Divorced and still begging for a seat at the table. How pathetic can you get?”
“She can’t even get the seasoning right. What’s the point of her being here?”
“Hudson is well rid of her. The Walters have standards. Why we ever let a commoner into the bloodline is beyond me. She should be grateful we’re even eating her swill.”
One cousin took a bite of chicken, barely chewed, and made a dramatic gagging sound, spitting the food back onto the table.
“What is this? This is disgusting!”
The insults were a relentless tide, the sneering faces making Jade’s blood boil. She looked at Hudson.
He sat there, silent as a statue, acting as if the entire scene had nothing to do with him.

Chapter 298 The Breaking Point
Jade felt as if a hot coal had been dropped into her chest.
Bert had done this before, and she’d always endured it for Hudson’s sake.
But not today.
Jade walked to the edge of the heavy mahogany table. She looked at the group, her face a mask of chilling indifference.
“Lost your appetite?
“It’s disgusting, is it?”

Bert, offended by her tone, began to rise from his chair. Before he could clear the seat, Jade reached under the edge of the table and heaved upward with every ounce of strength she possessed.
The massive table flipped.
Crash-
Smash-
Silverware, fine china, and food exploded across the room.
“Aaah!”
The room erupted in screams. The floor was a disaster area of broken glass and expensive wine. Bert stood there, his face as black as thunder, looking at the wreckage.
Jade stood in the center of the chaos, her expression unchanged. She watched the fallout with a terrifying calm.
The relatives were in shock. They’d known Jade as a soft, obedient girl-someone they could kick without fear of a bite.
They’d spent years using her as a punching bag to please Bert.
They never expected her to burn the house down.
