Chapter 279 The Last Drive
Hudson sat in the driver’s seat and dialed Jade’s number.
She answered almost immediately, her voice tight with anxiety.
“What? You’re not backing out, are you?”
Hudson’s expression shifted. He softened his voice before answering.
“No. I’m just reminding you to bring your identification and the legal documents.”
“Oh…” Jade’s voice relaxed instantly.
“I have everything ready. Just don’t change your mind.”
Hudson let out a hollow, bitter laugh.
“Don’t worry. I gave my word. I’m sticking to it.”
Jade gave a quiet “okay” and then… silence.
The sound of their breathing mingled over the line for a long, awkward moment.
Hudson broke first.
‘Are you ready?”
‘I’ve been ready for a long time.”
‘I’m downstairs. I have the car. Let’s go to the office together.”
en seconds passed before she replied.
Fine.”
A few minutes later, the studio door opened.
Hudson looked up, his heart skipping a beat.

lade stepped out into the morning light. She was wearing a midnight blue wrap dress with a delicate white cashmere shawl,
She looked graceful, elegant, and impossibly radiant.
Hudson thought back to the three years they’d spent together. She had always worn comfortable, plain loungewear at home. He’d emembered her as grey and dull.
But looking at her now, she was a pearl that had finally been cleaned of the dust. This was the woman she was always meant to be.
Jade reached the car. She looked for a back seat, but realized the Pagani was a two-seater.
She hesitated for a heartbeat before opening the passenger door and sitting down.

The scent of her-light and floral-filled the small cabin. Hudson drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, trying to sound casual.
“You seem to like those silk gowns lately.”
Jade adjusted her shawl, her tone flat.
“I’ve always liked them.”
Hudson blinked. “Then why didn’t you wear them? I have dozens of boutiques under the Walter Group that specialize in custom silk.”
Jade looked him dead in the eye. “It’s hard to do house chores in a silk dress.”
Hudson was speechless. His grip on the wheel tightened.
He was a man who valued his privacy. When they first moved into the villa, Jade had insisted on doing everything herself to make him feel comfortable.
The house was always perfect. He had never felt more at peace.
He’d seen her cleaning with a smile on her face and assumed she loved taking care of him. He’d never even thought about hiring a
maid.
But hearing her now, he realized the truth. She had sacrificed everything she liked to cater to his preferences. He had enjoyed the result while ignoring the cost, the labor, and the woman behind it all.
No wonder she said he didn’t know her. He’d never even bothered to look.
A wave of suffocating guilt washed over him. His hands began to shake on the leather wheel.
Jade noticed. “Is something wrong?”
“Nothing.” Hudson forced the emotions back, his eyes rimming with red.
He reached into the side compartment and pulled out a bouquet of flowers.
Jade didn’t take them, so he set them in her lap.
“You like hydrangeas, don’t you? I picked these out myself this morning.”
Jade looked down at the perfectly arranged blue flowers.
“Did you only realize I liked hydrangeas after you saw Julian send them to me?”
The words were like a blade to his chest. Hudson went rigid, unable to move. Every gift he’d never given, every moment he’d missed… another man had stepped into the gap first.
