“It’s not your problem. You stay with Cortney,” Hudson said, rising from the sofa. “I’ll go check on her.”
Upstairs, by the guest room door, Hudson could hear the sound of muffled sobs from within.
His hand paused on the doorknob. A sharp, unfamiliar pang pierced his heart, but the feeling was fleeting, vanishing before he could fully grasp it.
When the crying softened, Hudson pushed the door open.
Jade was curled up at the foot of the bed, the photo frame and picture still clutched in her hands. She looked small and pitiful, huddled there.
Unconsciously, a flicker of concern passed through Hudson’s eyes. He walked over and pulled her slender shoulders into an embrace.
“Jade-”
“Don’t touch me. I don’t want to see you right now.” Jade pushed out of his arms and moved to the other side of the bed.
Hudson narrowed his eyes. In their three years of marriage, Jade had always been soft-spoken and gentle with him. Even when she was upset, it felt more like pouting, never like this. She’d never said she didn’t want to see him.
She must be really angry this time.
He placed the box he’d brought upstairs beside him, opened it, and took out the rose quartz bracelet he’d picked up at the auction that afternoon.
Jade had a gentle nature, and the color would suit her,
“Alright, don’t be angry anymore,” he said, turning her shoulders toward him. He was about to speak when Jade looked up at the same time,
The light in her eyes was shattered by her tears into fragile fragments, a broken sight that made one’s breath catch.
Hudson’s voice softened unintentionally. “This is-”
“Hudson, you said once I found a job, we’d talk about divorce.” Jade pulled the completed job application form for the “Memoria Script Studio” from her bag and placed it quietly beside

She continued, “I have a job now. Please sign the divorce papers.”
Hudson picked up the application. “Artifact restorer?”
He glanced at it for a second before tossing it back onto the bed. The soundlessly, but Jade’s heart felt heavy.

Without waiting for him to speak, she took the already-signed divorce agreement from the nightstand drawer. “Sign it.”
Hudson didn’t take it. Instead, he asked in a flat tone, “I remember your major in college wasn’t this. Are you sure you can do this job?”
“Whether I can or not is none of your business,” Jade said, her grip on the papers tightening. “You said it yourself. Once I found a job, we’d divorce. You can’t go back on your word!”
An inexplicable feeling of suffocation came over Hudson. He loosened his tie and unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt. “Jade, tell me, what is this really about?”
Jade’s gaze was firm, her tone stubborn. “Haven’t I made myself clear? I want a divorce, Hudson. I want a divorce from you!”
Hudson stared into her eyes for a few seconds, then suddenly let out a cold laugh. “You can’t stand Cortney and Amara, so to force me to abandon them, you’d even get someone to act in this charade with you.”
He reached out and gripped her chin. “Jade, with tactics and scheming like this, I’m really starting to doubt why you married me in the first place.”
Tears welled in the corners of Jade’s eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but her throat felt blocked, unable to make a sound.
The man she’d loved for so many years not only didn’t love her back but was now denying and insulting that love, trampling her feelings over and over again.
That’s the truth. What more is there to say?
