A black sedan had slammed into the side of Hudson’s SUV, broadsiding him and completely blocking the road.

While she was still staring in shock, her phone rang. It was Julian Foster.

“Go. Now,” Julian’s calm voice said the second she answered.

Jade looked back at the wreckage.

Hudson had stepped out of his car, his gaze fixed on her disappearing taillights. He looked like he wanted to abandon the crash and chase her on foot, but the driver of the black sedan was already out and blocking his path.

It wasn’t hard to figure out that Julian had engineered this “accident” just to give her a opening.

Her mind was a whirlwind of emotion, but she didn’t waste the chance. “Understood,” she whispered, and floored the gas to stay on Amara’s tail.

The Bluenote Club.

In the parking garage, Jade watched from her car as Amara led Cortney toward the private entrance. She stepped out of her car and followed them like a shadow.

The first few floors were easy, but when she reached the top-tier VIP level, she had to stop.

Two massive security guards stood before the only entrance, checking Amara and Cortney’s IDs before letting them through.

Jade hid behind a pillar, her mind racing.

Getting through those doors as herself was impossible. She needed a better plan.

She stood there for several long seconds before a solution presented itself.

A janitor.

Every high-end club had cleaning staff, and they were usually invisible to the elite. It was the perfect disguise.

Jade hurried to a utility closet at the end of the hall. she found a standard janitor uniform and threw it over her clothes. She pulled on a surgical mask, grabbed a broom and a dustpan, and lowered her head.

She walked toward the doors. The guards didn’t even look at her as they waved her through. She was inside the VIP corridor.

The hallway was silent, making every sound from behind the heavy doors amplified.

She heard the voices of Amara, Cortney, and Lyndon.

She leaned down, pretending to sweep the carpet as she crept closer to the source of the noise.

“Daddy! You said you’d come see me! Why didn’t you come?”

Lyndon accepted the title without a second thought.

“Daddy’s still busy, honey. Just a little longer, okay?”

Then, Amara’s voice rose in a sharp, jagged snarl.

“Longer? How much longer? I am sick of hiding like a criminal! Lyndon, if you don’t find a way to stop the Faith family, you can deal with your daughter yourself. I am not lugging this dead weight around anymore!”

“My daughter?” Lyndon’s voice was like a whip. “Is she not your daughter too? I am doing everything I can to handle the Faiths, but look at you! You can’t even handle a child without making a scene. How am I supposed to think with you constantly screwing up?”

“Don’t you dare blame me!”

Amara’s voice was shrill.

“If you had half a plan, I wouldn’t have to play nice with the Walters! You have no idea how humiliating it was to be lectured and kicked out by Emily Walter! Now Hudson isn’t even taking my calls. Where are we supposed to go? Without the Walters’ protection, it’s only at matter of time before the Faiths find me. What then?”

She had reached the point. Jade leaned in, her voice recorder already running in her pocket.

Inside the room.

Lyndon’s face darkened as he heard they’d been evicted.

“What? Why the hell would Emily kick you out?”

Amara ground her teeth, her nails digging into Lyndon’s arm.

“It’s that b*tch Jade Merchant. She must have said something to Bert and Emily. They just showed up out of nowhere to give me hell. Emily threw me out of the villa Hudson gave me. Now Hudson won’t even answer his phone.”

Her rage was peaking as she gripped his arm.

“You said you’d take care of her! When? Jade is wrapping his parents around her finger. If we don’t get rid of her, we’re never getting back into the Walter inner circle.”

Lyndon pulled a cigarette from a pack on the table and lit it, taking a long, deep drag.

“In two weeks. I’ve already found someone to make sure Jade Merchant disappears forever.”

Suddenly, a sharp click echoed through the room. The heavy door, which hadn’t been fully latched, drifted open by an inch.

“Who’s there?!”

Lyndon’s voice was a low snarl as he lunged toward the door.

Outside, Jade’s heart hammered against her ribs. She’d leaned in too far and accidentally bumped the latch. Her palms were slick with cold sweat.

The sound of approaching footsteps was like a drumbeat in her ears.

Slam!

The door was ripped open, and Lyndon Spenser was standing there.

His predator-like eyes scanned her from head to toe.
