“Didn’t you just say we should torture each other? I think that’s a brilliant idea. Get ready to spend a lifetime making me miserable, because I’m never letting you go.”

“You’re insane!”

Jade screamed at him, her eyes red as she struggled to break free. Hudson wouldn’t budge. She leaned down and bit his shoulder with everything she had.

She tasted blood, but Hudson didn’t let go. He whispered in her ear.

“You’re right. I am insane. Don’t push me again, Jade. I don’t know what I’ll do next.”

“You’re a monster,” Jade hissed, pounding on his shoulders and shoving at him.

“Let me go!”

In the dim light, her eyes were swimming with tears and her pale lips were trembling, giving her an air of desperate beauty.

Hudson wasn’t even listening to her words anymore.

He gripped her waist and leaned in.

Jade saw the intent in his eyes and shoved him back with a burst of strength, her hand connecting with his face in a resounding slap.

Hudson caught her wrist before she could pull back, the fire in his eyes softening into a dark obsession.

“Jade… I’ll make us what we were. Just give me more time.”

But Jade only saw the madness in that softness.

A chill ran down her spine. Her heart felt tight with a sudden, overwhelming surge of power born from sheer desperation.

She shoved him away one last time. Without a word, she sprinted up the stairs, threw herself into her room, and locked the door. She slumped against the wood, gasping for air.

The image of Hudson’s obsessive, predatory gaze stayed with her. Even a hint of it made her skin crawl.

In three years of marriage, she had experienced every pain imaginable and lost everything she held dear.

She had to get away from him.

Luckily, she had teamed up with Silas Faith…

Thinking of the partnership, she felt her mind begin to clear.

Since they were partners, she could use his resources, couldn’t she?

Amara and Lyndon always met in total secrecy.

By herself, getting close to them was nearly impossible, let alone finding evidence of a murder.

After a moment of thought, Jade pulled out her phone and dialed Silas Faith’s number.

“Mr. Faith, it’s Jade Merchant.”

Silas sounded as if he’d been expecting the call. His tone was professionally flat.

“Ms. Merchant. I know why you’re calling. I’ll give it to you straight: as long as you’re looking for evidence against Amara and Lyndon, my resources and my connections are at your disposal.”

Jade was impressed. Dealing with a smart man was effortless. She hadn’t even asked yet, and he already knew what she needed.

She decided to be equally blunt.

“I’ve used the Walters to put pressure on Amara. She’s likely to run to Lyndon soon. I need someone to help me track her in real-time so I can make my move.”

On the other end, Silas’s voice carried a hint of surprise.

“I didn’t realize you were such a woman of action, Ms. Merchant.”

Jade didn’t answer, a wave of bitterness washing over her.

Her desire for a divorce hadn’t wavered for a second.

Before, she had no leverage. Now that she did, she wasn’t going to let the opportunity slip through her fingers.

Silas didn’t seem to expect an answer. After a moment of silence, he continued.

“I’ll have it handled. You’ll get her real-time location sent directly to your phone.”

Jade whispered a “thank you.” As she was about to hang up, Silas spoke again.
