From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 188

Her voice was a hoarse, desperate cry of agony.

"That baby was the only family I had left. I would have done anything to keep it safe!"

She clutched her chest, the loss of the child feeling like a physical hole in her heart. She glared at Hudson, her voice a lethal accusation.

"But what did you do? To force me back, you hurt everyone I cared about. You even desecrated my mother's remains..."

She paused, a sharp, mocking laugh escaping her lips.

"You're right. I do hate you. Every single thing I loved, you destroyed. I want you dead, Hudson. Why would I ever keep a piece of you? I booked this procedure the second you used my mother to blackmail me. I never intended to have your child!"

"Cough—"

Hudson couldn't stop a sharp cough. A thin trail of blood ran down his chin, which he wiped away with the back of his hand.

He stared at her, realizing that the love that used to shine in her eyes had been completely burned away, leaving only a cold, black ash.

When she had agreed to come back, he'd been so happy.

He thought she still loved him. He thought they were going to be a family again.

That was why he'd been so soft with Amara—he didn't think he needed to be firm anymore.

He'd been wrong about everything. And his mistakes had cost him his child.

A crushing wave of regret washed over him.

"I'm sorry."

Hudson sank to his knees and pressed his face against the back of her hand. She felt the heat of his tears on her skin.

"Jade... let this be the end of the past. We can start over. We can have another child. I'll change. I'll learn to respect you. I'll do whatever you want. Please, don't let us end like this."

The moisture on her hand made her heart twinge with a phantom pain.

The arrogant Hudson Walter was finally begging.

But...

"Hudson, I don't want the things you refused to give me before. And I certainly don't want them from you now."

She pulled her hand away, her expression turning to stone.

"If you have a shred of decency left, let me go. Give me the divorce and stop this torture!"

"Never!"

Hudson lunged up and pulled her into a suffocating embrace.

At that moment, Jewell charged back in and stepped between them, glaring at Hudson.

"Hudson Walter, haven't you done enough? Look at her! She just had surgery! Do you have any idea what that does to a woman's body? Let her rest! You've already cost her the baby—are you trying to kill her too?"

Hudson looked at Jade's pale face and heaving chest. Finally, he took a step back.

"Fine. Rest. I'll be back later."

Not long after he left, Julian returned with another man.

The man was in a sharp black suit, every button done up with clinical precision. Despite his young face, he radiated an aura of severe, unyielding authority.

Jade looked at Julian.

"Who is this?"

Before Julian could answer, the man spoke.

"Ms. Merchant, I'm Silas Faith. I'm on a tight schedule, so I'll be brief.

"I can get you your divorce from Hudson Walter. But I have conditions.

"My family and I have evidence that Ronald's death involved Lyndon Spenser and Amara Hoyt. But we don't have the final proof to convict them. Lyndon is too slippery, but Amara is the weak link.
