From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 187

"I feel free."

Julian's eyes flickered with a complicated emotion. He set a thermal container on the bedside table.

"It's chicken broth. To help you recover. It's still hot, so let it cool for a minute."

"Thank you."

Silence settled over the room as Jade whispered her thanks.

Julian pulled a chair up and sat beside her.

"Jade, remember when I said I had something important to tell you today?"

Jade nodded. "You said you wanted to introduce me to someone from the Faith family."

"Right."

Julian stood up and checked the door. He ordered two bodyguards to stand guard outside and locked the door before sitting back down.

"I told you I'd find a way to get you that divorce. I knew Amara Hoyt was the key, so I started digging into her past.

"My people found something... unexpected. Amara's daughter isn't Ronald Faith's child. Lyndon Spenser is Cortney's biological father."

"What?"

Jade's eyes widened, her mind reeling.

"Ronald isn't her father? It's Lyndon Spenser?!"

Julian handed her a sealed envelope.

"I managed to get a DNA test done. The results are right there."

Jade took the envelope and pulled out the documents.

The numbers were undeniable. A 99.9% match between Cortney and Lyndon.

Jade felt a jolt of shock, but before she could process it, a commotion erupted outside.

Hudson's icy, arrogant voice cut through the air.

"Get out of my way!

"Who do you think you are to stop me from seeing my wife?"

Jade immediately shoved the papers back into the envelope and thrust it into Julian's hands.

"Keep this. We'll talk later."

As Julian took the file, the shouting outside intensified. It sounded like a fight was breaking out.

The hospital staff were screaming for them to stop.

"Sir! This is a hospital! We're calling security!"

"Sir, you need to leave with your men immediately!"

Through the chaos, Hudson's voice roared.

"Jade! I know you're in there! Open this door or I'm tearing it off the hinges!"

Jade closed her eyes, exhausted. Julian placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Don't worry. I'll handle it."

Jade grabbed his sleeve before he could turn away.

"Don't kill him."

"I'll try."

With that cryptic promise, Julian strode out of the room.

Hudson hesitated, but seeing the utter lack of emotion in her eyes, he slowly released her.

"I—"

Jade ignored him completely. She turned to Julian.

"Give us a moment. I need to handle this."

Julian respected her wish. He took a single step back.

"I'll be right outside. Call me if you need anything."

Inside the room.

Jade sat on the edge of the bed while Hudson leaned against the wall, looking like a ghost.

His eyes dropped to her abdomen, and a visible tremor shook him. His voice was thick with unshed tears.

"Is it... is it really gone? Our baby?"

Jade didn't answer. She just watched him.

The flicker of hatred in her eyes was like a physical blow to Hudson.

He looked away, trying to blink back the stinging heat in his eyes. It took him several seconds to find his voice again.

"You wanted this baby more than anything. You bought clothes, you hid the pregnancy, you were even going to leave the country just to protect it. How could you just... throw it away? Do you really hate me that much? Enough to destroy your own child?"

The words were barely out of his mouth before Jade's hand connected with his face in a resounding slap.

The tears she'd been holding back finally began to fall.

"You have the nerve to talk about how much I wanted this child?"
