Amara's face twisted for a split second, her nails digging deep into her palms.
During her time in the hospital, she had been plotting her return to Hudson's side and dealing with Lyndon Spenser. She hadn't been paying attention to Jade.
How long had it been? And this shameless bitch was already living with Hudson again!
Amara was so angry she could have spit fire, but she forced a smile that looked more like a grimace.
"I'm not sure why you're telling me that. You're married. Isn't living together expected?"
She paused, then added with a sharp edge.
"Oh, I forgot. You had that massive fight and tried to move out as a threat. Now that you're back, are you trying to tell everyone you were just playing hard to get because you couldn't get his attention?"
She began to dab at her eyes with a handkerchief.
"If that's the case, why did you have to make things so hard for me and my daughter? Hudson was just helping us out of pity, but you couldn't stand it. You made my daughter cry so many times, then told Hudson God-knows-what to get me sent to that hospital..."
Her voice rose with emotion, and she began to sob as if she were the victim of a great injustice.
"Ms. Merchant, I really don't understand. You're the powerful Mrs. Walter. Why are you so cruel to a woman who just lost her husband?"
Amara cried piteously, making sure to watch Jade's reaction through the gaps in her fingers.
She was making a scene on purpose to provoke Jade.
She wanted Jade to explode, to prove she was a petty, jealous woman who couldn't stand a "poor widow." She wanted the crowd to turn on her.
Upstairs.
Julian had just met up with Jeff on the second floor when he saw the scene. Before he could even catch his breath, he was rushing for the stairs.
He was terrified Jade was being bullied.
Jeff quickly grabbed his arm.
"Julian! If you go down there now, you'll just make it worse. Just watch for a second."
Jeff couldn't help but sigh to himself.
Julian was usually the most rational man he knew.
But the second it involved Jade, he lost his mind.
