Chapter 146 The Shadow of the Walters
To be honest, it was the first meal Jade had actually enjoyed in a very long time.
After they finished eating, Julian Forster suddenly looked at her.
“Is there anything else you need my help with?”
Jade met his eyes for a split second before looking back down at her lap.
“No…”
“I already know everything,” Julian said quietly.

“But I have to head overseas for a major issue; I’ll find a solution with you the moment I’m back.”
Jade tightened her grip on her utensils and snapped her head up to look at him.
“You really don’t have to do this.”
She was sinking deeper into his debt, and she was terrified of what the interest would be. “Jade,” Julian said, sliding a glass of warm water toward her.
“Don’t overthink it. Just consider me a friend. And friends help each other-it’s that simple.”
In the end, she couldn’t even pay the bill because Julian owned the restaurant; he told her to save the treat for next time.
He arranged for a car to take her home while he headed straight to the airport for his flight.
Riding the elevator up to her
Oor, Jade,
* Couldn’t stop replaying Julian’s words in her head.
Even if Julian was willing to help, she knew she had to find a way to balance the scales.
Her expression softened as she thought about the visa application-it was her one guaranteed escape route.
Ding
The elevator doors slid open.
The acrid scent of tobacco hit her instantly, and hen Hudson Walter emerged from the shadows, his expression unreadable.

“You look thrilled. Did you think a visa was your ticket to a fairy-tale ending with Julian Forster?”
Jade’s lips trembled as her voice failed her, her nails digging into her palms with a bruising intensity.
All the evidence she had meticulously gathered had been rendered useless in a single stroke.
And now he even knew about the secret visa application.
Terrifying….
That was the only word echoing through Jade’s mind.
Hudson was far more dangerous than she had ever dared to imagine.
Hudson didn’t wait for a response, closing the distance between them with heavy, deliberate
steps.
Jade stumbled back, and Hudson stopped, leaning in to whisper a sentence that sounded like
a curse.
“You’re carrying my heir. Do you honestly think I’m ever going to let you run?”
Jade’s hand flew to her stomach, her face draining of all color as her mind began to fracture.
“Hudson, please… I’m begging you. Just stop suffocating me.”
Hudson watched her breakdown with a look of cold, clinical indifference.
“Jade, you had a thousand paths to a good life,
good life, and you chose the only one that leads to
disaster.”
Jade clutched her head as waves of agony crashed over her, her entire body beginning to shake.
She bit her lip until it bled, her eyes burning red as she finally exploded.
“Marrying you was my only mistake! If I could go back, I’d rather have died in that alley than be saved by you!”
“Heh.”
Hudson let out a short, hollow laugh.
“Well, that’s unfortunate, because you’re not just my wife-you’re the mother of my child.”

“And now you’re using my baby to cage me!” Jade’s head throbbed as if pierced by needles; she covered her ears and shook her head violently.
“This is my baby! Mine! You have Amara now, so why won’t you just let me go? Divorce is easy for someone like you!”
Jade felt her strength failing, her heart feeling as if it were being squeezed in a vice.
“Are you actually trying to kill me? Is that your ultimate goal?”
Hudson took a step forward and locked his hand around her wrist.
“You’re coming home with me.”
He had explained a thousand times that his relationship with Amara was purely platonic.
He had even committed Amara to a psychiatric facility for treatment.
Since she refused to believe him, he would use every resource to force her back under his roof.
