Adolphus grinned at Laurinda’s comment. “If they hadn’t been born at home, my mom would’ve wondered if there was some mix-up in the hospital. No one in the Lane family has ever been that clueless.”
Later at home, Adolphus showered and headed straight for Laurinda’s room. He still hadn’t dropped the whole marriage idea. The more he thought about it, the more possible it seemed. As far as he was concerned, if he could get Laurinda to agree, there wouldn’t be a problem for long.
He pushed open her door and spotted Laurinda stretched out on her bed, phone in hand, chatting away. When he heard the buzz of loud, excited voices from her phone, he hesitated, then quietly backed out.
Laurinda saw his shadow retreat from the doorway and couldn’t help but smile.
“Laurinda, what’s so funny? We’re checking out the exam hall tomorrow. Want to get lunch together?” someone asked on the call.
“I think I’ll skip it. Didn’t the class president say we shouldn’t hang out until after exams, so no one gets too distracted? I’ll wait until you all finish your last exam. Afterwards, my treat—dinner on the top floor of Azure Heights. I’ll take everyone out for something special.”
“Azure Heights?” They all went quiet for a moment.
Most of them were on scholarships and money was always tight, but even they knew how exclusive Azure Heights was in Apex.
“Wait, Laurinda, did we hear you right?” asked another friend.
“You heard right. Once the last exam’s done, dinner at Azure Heights. All of you, on me.”
Cheers exploded from the classroom on the other end of the call. Mr.Owen happened to be walking past and poked his head in, frowning at the noise. He almost scolded them, but then remembered graduation was around the corner, so he just let it go.
