From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 512

He never tried to hide how he felt about her. Honestly, it never even crossed his mind to pretend, and he wasn’t embarrassed about it one bit. So when Laurinda brought it up, he just couldn’t get on board.

Laurinda looked a little down. Her lips jutted out and she grumbled, “But if you’re there, they won’t be able to relax. They’ll feel all awkward.”

“I don’t have to sit with you. I can wait next door,” Adolphus said. He hadn’t planned on joining them anyway. Hanging out with a bunch of her classmates he barely knew? Not his thing.

“Really?” she asked, brightening up.

“Of course.”

“You’re amazing!” Laurinda grinned, set her milk on the table, and threw herself into his arms, rubbing her cheek against him like a happy kitten.

Watching her being so sweet, Adolphus felt his worries melt away. He’d been thinking she might still be upset about Baal, secretly holding on to something, but now it was clear she was fine. The relief made him smile.

“Drink your milk first,” he reminded her gently.

Laurinda slipped out of his embrace and finished her milk without complaint. After a quick glance at her phone, she got to her feet. “They’re probably here by now. I’ll go downstairs to meet them.”

Adolphus stood up as well. “I’ll go with you.”

“Sure,” she smiled. She wasn’t going to argue. After all, he was already making an effort for her and their classmates were bound to find out about them eventually.

Together they headed downstairs. From a distance, Laurinda could see a few people from her class stuck at the entrance, blocked by some of Fabian’s followers.

One of the guys sneered, “Do you people even know where you are? This isn’t exactly the spot for kids living off scholarships, you know. Oh wait, maybe you’re better off sticking to the cafeteria with the rest of the charity cases.” Behind him, his friends burst into loud laughter. Laurinda’s classmates turned red, clearly trying to hold back their anger.
