“It’s nothing. There are just a few things you should know. You’ll see when we get there.”
After Laurinda finished getting ready, she stepped out of the room with Adolphus. Foley had breakfast waiting for them, and Laurinda took a seat at the table.
Egan set a bowl of porridge in front of her and sat down across from her, trying to hide the smile in his voice.
“I heard from Adolphus that you agreed to marry him?”
Laurinda lowered her head to take a sip of porridge, then nodded. “That’s right. He asked me to marry him, and I said yes.”
“Nice. That means we can get started on planning your wedding.”
“I don’t want a wedding. That sounds exhausting,” Laurinda muttered as she bit some pastry. She turned to glance at Adolphus, who looked completely at ease. “Marriage is fine, but we need to think about the wedding. Besides, it’s just not a good time.”
“What’s so inconvenient about it? You don’t need to worry about any of the details. Just show up and be the bride. There’s no way Adolphus is getting married in secret. What, is he someone who needs to hide?”
Egan looked over at Adolphus, totally relaxed. There were plenty of people hoping for Adolphus’s attention. Why keep the marriage under wraps? They might as well do it properly and let everyone know.
Laurinda finished her last bite and glanced at Egan’s expression, then looked over at Adolphus, who was practically glowing. It was impossible not to roll her eyes. With those looks on their faces, how could anyone think this was a spontaneous decision? If she had to guess, they’d been plotting this from the start.
After breakfast, the four of them headed out together. The car pulled up outside the Gates Group building. That big Gates Group sign had been replaced by a new one for the Aurora Group.
