From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 272

“So, turns out all the Charles family daughters have a thing for being the other woman, huh? I used to think it was just Rea who liked chasing after old men, but I guess every daughter’s got a talent for homewrecking. Maybe it runs in the family, right along with the crazy genes.”

The crowd murmured and turned to see who had spoken. To everyone’s surprise, it was Len’s ex-wife, Cara.

Out of everyone here, Cara was the last person anyone wanted to hear from, but she was the only one with the right to talk. Back when Len dumped her for Rea, the scandal had been all over town. Even their kids ended up changing their last name to hers.

“Cara, shut up!” Patten snapped, his voice tight.

Cara just arched her brows, looking completely satisfied with herself.

“Shut up? Who do you think you’re talking to? You can boss people around, but you don’t get to control me. She’s the one who did something shameless, but nobody’s supposed to mention it? Rea worked her way up by being the other woman, and now all her sisters are following in her footsteps. The whole family’s got no shame.”

Patten’s face turned red with anger, but there was no use arguing. Cara was right. He had no say over her anymore, not since they’d cut ties.

He let out a frustrated huff, grabbed Rea’s arm, and stalked off, wanting to get out of there before things got even more embarrassing.

Jed glanced at Pearce, who still hadn’t said a word, and decided to press on.

“Pearce, you sure were aggressive when you yelled at Laurinda earlier. What’s wrong now? Cat got your tongue? You know you’re in the wrong, so how about thinking about how you’re going to apologize to my granddaughter. Otherwise, we’re not done here.”

Jed had come forward for one reason, to stand up for his granddaughter. If he didn’t, the Main family would be the laughingstock of the whole city.

“And while you’re at it, don’t forget you owe me an apology, too,” Laurinda added, stepping forward with a casual confidence that bordered on daring. “You insulted me for no reason.”

She’d been quiet until now, waiting for the perfect moment. All she wanted was to watch Pearce and the Charles family lose every bit of pride they had left.
