"Which aspect are you referring to?" Isabelle asked with a playful smirk, throwing back a question he'd once asked her.
Damian swallowed his last bite of food, his tongue sweeping across his lips. An unreadable look flickered in his eyes.
His expression seemed to say, "Your audacity won't last long."
Damian folded his hands on the table, leaning in slightly, his voice low and thick. "Sweetheart, I'll make sure you understand the consequences of playing with me..."
A faint pink tinged Isabelle's earlobes, a wave of heat rushing through her.
She picked up the cup of camel milk, avoiding his gaze, looking out at the moonlight as she took small sips, a secret smile playing on her lips.
He is not to be provoked. Things will be bad for me once my period ends.
Workdays were crazy enough; with the holiday, his wild side probably won't stay hidden anymore.
After finishing most of the milk, she picked up her purse to use the restroom.
Damian watched her walk away, a smile lingering on his lips. He interlaced his fingers, his thumbs circling each other.
It was the posture of someone in a superior position, savoring a victory.
Isabelle washed her hands, grabbing a paper towel to dry them.
In the mirror, she saw Fenella behind her, wearing a look that could kill.
She let out a chuckle, her black heels turning slowly on the damp floor.
"Well, if it isn't the mother of Nicole's husband?" she said coolly.
Fenella's face was grim.
If not for that recording and video from Isabelle back then, if it had just been Nicole's sonogram, the relationship between the two families wouldn't have deteriorated to this state.
Fenella couldn't contain her rage. If Isabelle hadn't been with a man earlier, Fenella would have already tried to pin her down right there.
Now that she was alone, Fenella wasn't about to let her walk out of this restroom without a lesson.
"You tramp! You seduced my son again and again and ruined him!" Fenella spat.
Isabelle gave a light laugh. "With that lecherous look of his, does he need seducing? He'd probably jump any woman."
"You've always had a sharp tongue. No wonder you ran off with another man right after breaking up with Gary. You're the one with loose morals, yet you throw mud at others. I bet you're just ashamed of climbing into someone else's bed, so you use my son as your cover story." Fenella was nearly shouting.
Her family had lost its reputation, their standing at work was damaged, and their already shaky auto business now depended on the Gale family's project to survive.
It meant a lifetime of looking up to the Gale family, forever inferior.
For someone used to looking down on others, this fall was unbearable.
Isabelle was used to their blame-shifting and didn't want to bother.
"So? What can you do about it?" she asked, smiling as she leaned in slightly, tilting her head to study the weary face beneath the lipstick. "Your son is still hopelessly devoted to me, isn't he?"
