Bella smiled. “I understand, Mom. You keep an eye on things with the Mercer family and let me know the second anything happens.”
“Of course, don't worry. I’ll be watching closely.”
As they spoke, Bella heard a loud noise through the phone.
She asked quickly, “Mom, what's going on?”
It took a moment for Sabrina to reply. “It’s your brothers. They made a run for it and caused a commotion. Some reporters are chasing them now.”
Bella scoffed. “Idiots. They can’t even do one simple thing right. Making a scene while trying to escape. I have no hope for the Mercer Group's future if it's left in their hands.
Once we get through this crisis, I'm going to propose at the next shareholder meeting that we hire professionals to run the company. Maybe then we’ll actually get a bigger dividend.”
Just then, there was a knock on Bella’s door. She hung up and went to open it.
Lucas was standing in the hallway.
Her mother-in-law's boy toy was knocking on her door late at night?
Was this appropriate?
Deep down, Bella had always been insecure about her own status.
But now, with Lucas standing before her, she suddenly felt a sense of superiority, as if she were high above and he was someone beneath her, practically dirt.
The stark contrast in their positions brought out an instinctive arrogance in her.
Her attitude toward Lucas was naturally poor, even a bit demeaning.
She looked down at him haughtily. “Yes?”
Lucas was a model who worked in the service industry. At his core, he was always in service mode.
