She drove the new car out, swapped it for the rental, and then drove back to the Mercer residence.
To justify buying a car, Bella deliberately let the Mercers see her driving the beat-up rental.
As expected, Martin’s fondness for her made him act. Seeing her in such a wreck of a car, he offered to bring a newer one home from the company for her to use.
“Bella is getting married soon,” Sabrina said. “Shouldn’t we consider buying a car for her? We’ll figure out the money.
We can’t have her getting engaged without even having her own car, can we?”
The Mercers didn’t know Bella had already bought a car, but Sabrina did.
It was Sabrina’s idea for Bella to drive the new car to the new house and park it in the garage.
All Bella had to do now was be patient and wait a little longer.
Martin agreed to Sabrina’s suggestion without giving it a second thought.
Bella had a legitimate reason to try and squeeze more money out of them, but Martin was truly tapped out.
At the company, Brandon was keeping a tight watch, and besides, there was no money. If there had been, they wouldn’t have needed to borrow money to bail him out.
For the past two days, Brandon himself had been trying to figure out how to scrape together enough to pay back the loan sharks.
The longer they delayed, the bigger the problem would become.
So when he came home from work and heard that Bella wanted to buy a car, he was not pleased.
“A car? With that kind of money, maybe Bella should think about helping the family pay off the loan sharks first.
That’s not a small sum. If something goes wrong, we’ll be in serious trouble down the line.”
Bella was already upset about the situation. “Are you saying I wanted you to take out that loan? You even dragged Mom and me into it. You know how little I make in a year.
