“Everyone has had a tough time at the Mercer estate these past two years. We’ve been putting up with it for a long time.
Today, Bella came home and started bossing us around, demanding we clear out the room and throw away all of Miss Lillian’s things. I just couldn’t take it anymore. Who does she think she is?”
Martha said indignantly as she walked out with Lillian.
Lillian listened with a small smile. “It’s fine. If you can’t stand being at the Mercer estate anymore, then you don’t have to stay.
From now on, anyone who wants to come work at my new home can come with me. Besides the salary from Grandma’s account that gets transferred to you each month, I’ll pay you another salary on top of that.”
Martha immediately shook her head. “Miss Lillian, we’re not doing this for the money. The salary the old madam gives us is more than enough. We’ve all worked for the Mercer family for so many years and have saved up. Plus, the old madam set us all up with various insurance plans, so we don’t have to worry about retirement.
That salary is enough. How could we possibly take another one from you, Miss Lillian?
Besides, you need to be careful with your spending.
Now that you’re no longer with the Mercer family, you’ve signed the papers to sever ties and left with nothing. You even gave back your shares.
I heard your company isn’t doing very well. You really shouldn’t waste any more money on us.
We’re more than happy with the old madam’s salary. We all want to come and serve you voluntarily.”
Lillian was at a loss for words. Her company wasn’t doing well?
It seemed Bella had quite the imagination. Not only did she make things up, but she spread them around the Mercer estate.
No wonder even Martha and the others thought her company was struggling.
