"What did you say? She lost her baby, and you want her to write a letter of forgiveness for Lillian?
"Lillian made a mistake, and she should face the consequences. The Mercer family has no place for someone like her. She's already been thrown out, and you've both signed papers severing ties with her.
"Don't forget, she agreed to it herself. She probably didn't want to be a Mercer anymore anyway."
Brandon felt a surge of anger. This father of theirs had been against Lillian from the start, and now he was trying to kick her while she was down?
Sending her to prison while she was this sick… was he trying to kill her?
Despite his anger, Brandon suppressed his emotions.
He tried to keep his tone calm. "Dad, I know what Lillian did was terribly wrong, but you've already thrown her out of the family and severed ties. That's a severe enough punishment."
"What kind of punishment is that? Her actions have shown her true, rotten nature. If we don't kick her out, are we supposed to wait for her to commit an even greater crime and drag the whole Mercer family down with her?"
Martin's harsh attitude made Brandon raise his voice. "But Dad, you're forgetting she has the Lancaster family behind her.
"If word of this gets to Midvale, to the Lancaster family, what will they think?
"Lillian and I went to Midvale together to handle your divorce from Mom.
"Do you know how much the relatives in Midvale value Lillian?
"If they find out you disowned her, tried to destroy her, and threw her in prison while she's seriously ill, will our relatives in Midvale just let it go?"
