Now that Bella's mind was at ease about the gambling, she didn’t let herself idle. Her marriage to Sebastian had stalled, which was a source of constant frustration.
She knew she had to keep pushing things forward to get what she wanted.
And right now, Debbie was the key to making that happen.
Knowing Debbie hadn't eaten breakfast and would have brunch upon waking, she went out and bought a spread of local Northwyn specialties, which she carefully arranged on the dining table in the presidential suite.
Just as she finished, Debbie emerged from her room.
With her curly hair loose and tousled, Debbie looked decadently慵懒 in her silk robe, a glass of wine swirling in one hand. She had the air of a wealthy woman who played by her own rules.
She took a sleepy sip of wine and noticed Bella.
“Bella, what are you doing here during work hours? Did I get the date wrong? Is it the weekend already?”
Bella quickly went over to her, a fawning smile on her face. “Of course not. I took the day off. I figured I could take an extra day to make it a three-day weekend and spend some quality time with you, ma’am.”
Bella had been so attentive lately that their form of address had grown more intimate.
Debbie looked surprised. “Oh? Bella, you mean you’re going to spend all three days with me?”
Her tone held a hint of disappointment.
“Yes, I wanted to take you out. You’ve been here for a while, and I haven’t had a chance to show you around.”
Debbie gave an awkward smile. “Well… Bella, dear, I’ve already made plans to play cards with a few ladies. So…”
Going out sightseeing held little appeal for her. Besides, she didn't want to break her appointment.
Still, she felt bad about dismissing Bella’s thoughtful gesture and could only offer a weak, apologetic smile.
Bella sensed something was off. Even though she’d had the place checked out, a flicker of worry returned.
She probed gently, “Playing cards? Have you been going often these past few days, ma’am?”
“Yes, it gets so boring sitting in the hotel all day, you know? So I go out for some fun. I ran into some old friends I used to work with back in the day here in Northwyn, so we get together to play.
I’m not very good, I mostly just keep them company.
Bella, dear, you’re so busy with work. You don’t need to worry about me. I’ve kept my schedule quite full with shopping, playing cards, and dining out.”
Bella grew even more uneasy. “Ma’am, how was your luck? Did you win yesterday?”
“Oh, we just play for fun. The stakes are very small. My luck was pretty good yesterday, I won two hundred dollars.”
Hearing that, Bella’s worries vanished completely.
Debbie’s friends were probably just ordinary people, so the stakes couldn’t be too high.
Two hundred dollars was nothing to Debbie, whether she won or lost.
As long as she was having fun, a little money didn't matter.
Bella relaxed, now perfectly fine with her going to play cards.
