Lillian was taken aback.
Was this a joke?
Now even the people closest to her thought she was so hopelessly in love with Sebastian that the divorce was just something she said, not what she truly wanted?
Did they think that after the divorce, she was supposed to fall apart, break down, and spend her days crying her eyes out?
That was just ridiculous.
Emma just stared at Lillian, still looking as if she couldn't believe it.
Lillian asked, "So, what do you think I should be doing after the divorce? Crying every day and begging Sebastian not to abandon me?"
Emma gave a wry smile. "Ms. Mercer, I'm sorry, that's not what I meant. It's just that… you used to love Mr. Blake so much. Everything revolved around him, and you never seemed to think about yourself.
"You poured every resource you could get your hands on into Mr. Blake's company. Your entire focus was on him.
"For those of us who saw it happen, it's just hard to believe that you two would actually get a divorce."
Hearing that, Lillian finally understood.
Everyone thought she was desperately in love with Sebastian. They remembered how she had pursued him relentlessly for years, giving everything for him without any boundaries. In her work, she shouldered all the burdens, selflessly funneling all her resources into the company.
It was no wonder people found it hard to believe that she would suddenly demand a divorce so decisively.
Listening to Emma, Lillian suddenly understood Sebastian's overconfidence regarding her feelings.
After speaking, Emma noticed the look in Lillian's eyes seemed to darken.
She quickly tried to backtrack. "Ms. Mercer, I didn't mean anything by it. I just thought that back then… you two actually made a handsome and well-matched couple."
