But every day, at a fixed time, she would only receive a simple reply: “I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
At first, Lillian didn't think much of it.
But as time went on, she grew inexplicably worried.
She even started to wonder if Leonard was the one personally sending that message.
Hearing the car now, Lillian rushed to look, but when the doors opened, two men she didn't recognize got out, carrying two medical cases.
Dr. Smith quickly came out, took the cases from them, and the men left.
Lillian hurried downstairs but missed them.
As Dr. Smith walked in with the medical cases, he ran right into her.
“Doctor, I’d like to have a word with you.”
“Ms. Mercer, are you not feeling well?”
Dr. Smith handed the cases to his assistant and walked over to Lillian.
Lillian shook her head. “I’m not feeling unwell at all. In fact, I feel much better than a few days ago. I even have a bit more energy.
“Doctor, I want to know, how is Leonard?
“Didn't you say he would be back in a week? It's been a week already.”
Dr. Smith hadn't expected her to be worried about Leonard.
“So you do have a conscience. You're not just thinking about your ex-husband and your Mercer family drama all day.
“Don't worry, that kid is tough as nails. He’s not going to die.
“If he’s not back in a week, something probably just held him up.
“I bet he's eager to get back here as we speak.”
Before her divorce from Sebastian, Lillian wouldn't have given a second thought to what anyone said.
