The first thing Sebastian did in the morning wasn't go to the office. Instead, he got dressed and headed to the address Brandon had given him to find Lillian.
Lillian had slept soundly. With the matter of her mother's shares settled, a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders, and she had a peaceful night's sleep.
Unfortunately, the moment she opened her eyes, a maid came to inform her that a Mr. Blake was here to see her.
Mr. Blake. Who else could it be?
Lillian frowned. Her dear brother Brandon was truly a piece of work.
She had just told him she was sick, and he had turned right around and told Sebastian.
What a ‘great’ brother.
So caring. She wondered how much he stood to gain by telling Sebastian about her illness.
"Ms. Mercer, that Mr. Blake has been waiting outside the gate. Ethan asked me to come up and see what you wanted to do," the maid said.
"Tell him to leave," Lillian replied. "If he won't, then let him wait. I'm hungry. Is breakfast ready?"
"It's all ready, Ms. Mercer," the maid said with a smile. "The doctor said that starting today, you can choose something you like to eat each day."
Lillian's recent nutritional meals were expensive but bland and unappetizing.
However, they were highly nutritious and were helping her recovery, so she had forced herself to eat every bite these past few days.
Finally, the doctor had given her the green light to have something extra.
"That's wonderful. For breakfast, could you add a small pastry for me?"
It had been a while, and she was really craving one.
"Of course. You go ahead and get ready, Ms. Mercer. I'll go prepare it."

Ethan stood at the main gate, arms crossed, and looked at Sebastian. "Mr. Blake, waiting by the gate this early in the morning really doesn't suit your status. Ms. Mercer has just woken up and said she doesn't want to see you. Why don't you just head back?"
Sebastian had come all this way to see Lillian, only to be met with a cold shoulder.
And he couldn't afford to offend Ethan.
This man was something of an enigma in the business world. Many had tried to recruit him, but he had surprisingly ended up working for Lillian.
This Lillian… since her release from prison, the people around her gave him an unsettling feeling, like he couldn't quite figure her out.
Nathan was helping her and had easily brought in Victor. Now even a mysterious figure like Ethan was on her side.
For a moment, Sebastian even thought that Lillian's company might not fail after all.
Perhaps she could actually make something of it.
