Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 67

The little dinner episode quickly passed.

By the time they finished eating, the sky had completely darkened, the cobalt blue turning into a deep navy.

Thanks to the clear weather during the day, the moon was particularly large that night.

Emma followed behind Evan as Mr. Webb led them on a stroll into the quiet woods.

Though the moonlight was bright, the surrounding trees grew so tall that their branches intertwined, completely obscuring the sky. The faint chirping of insects was the only sound. They walked for a long time without seeing a single firefly.

Walking at the back, Emma was starting to regret her choice of footwear. She had worn a pair of low-heeled leather shoes. Though the heels were short, the winding and slightly steep dirt path made walking difficult.

She carefully followed behind Evan.

The group walked quietly deeper into the woods.

“Look…”

After what felt like an eternity, Evan suddenly stopped.

Emma, who had been looking down at her feet, walked right into his back. She was about to frown and ask what was wrong when she looked up. In the next second, her eyes were met with the sight of countless fireflies dancing lightly among the leaves.

It was like stepping into a magical world.

Countless fireflies floated before her eyes, like tiny, nimble lanterns emitting a soft, yellow-green glow. They moved in pairs and threes, forward and back, high and low, light and ethereal. At one point, a firefly landed on her arm.

“Is it beautiful?”

“Yes…”

Emma was completely mesmerized.

She was so captivated that she didn’t even notice when Evan quietly took her hand and gently wrapped his arm around her. She just kept her head tilted up, staring at the twinkling lights above.

“Why did you defend me to the media yesterday?”
