Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 53

“You’re not in the best shape. You should consider being admitted to the hospital.”

Nathan returned to his desk, sat down, and began flipping through Emma’s case file.

“I also recommend telling your family about your condition. This isn’t something that can be cured quickly.”

Emma gently shook her head. “I’m not staying. I can handle it myself.”

Her response made Nathan frown in disapproval. He glanced at Emma, unable to hold back his next piece of advice. “It’s great that you feel you can handle it, but…”

Nathan’s expression turned a bit awkward. He hesitated for a moment before continuing, “But you really need to abstain from sexual activity. Your health is the most important thing.”

Emma froze. As the realization dawned on her, she quickly picked up the scarf from her lap and wrapped it around her neck again.

Because she had missed her morning session, her entire day’s worth of chemotherapy was crammed into one afternoon.

By the time she was finished, it was already eleven o’clock at night.

Seeing the time, Emma remembered what Evan had said when he left that afternoon—that he would be home early tonight.

She knew he would be furious if he came home and found her gone again. Emma rushed out of the hospital, got in her car, and sped home.

When she arrived, the house was brightly lit, but there were no shoes at the entrance.

Emma stood there, catching her breath, as a thought began to form. After a long moment, she called out, “Mrs. Alvarez?”

There was no answer.

She changed her shoes and walked inside, searching the entire house from the ground floor to the top, but she didn’t see a single soul.

Evan had broken his promise. He hadn’t come home again.
