Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 52

Seeing the freshly peeled shrimp in her bowl, Emma couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart.

She looked at the man before her, still diligently shelling shrimp for her, and suddenly felt an urge to laugh.

A smile slowly spread across her lips.

Evan noticed she hadn't touched her food and looked up at her. “Why aren’t you eating?”

Seeing the smile on her lips, he smiled back. “What are you smiling at me for? Go on, eat.”

Emma's smile slowly began to reveal a deep, unconcealable hurt. She looked at Evan, and though her eyes were smiling, her gaze was filled with sorrow.

“What’s wrong, Emma?”

Sensing her unhappiness, Evan grew anxious. Ignoring the grease on his hands, he immediately stood and moved closer to her. “Don’t cry, don’t cry. If you want to look at me, you can look at me. Don't eat if you don't want to, okay?”

He coaxed her gently, as if they were back in the early years of their relationship, when even a single tear from her would break his heart.

Emma let out a bitter laugh and took a tissue to wipe away the tear that had just rolled down her cheek.

She shook her head. “Let’s just eat. Who wants to look at you? Don’t be so full of yourself…”

Her slightly snappy tone didn’t annoy Evan; he just laughed along with her.

He wiped his hands with a wet wipe and put a pork rib on her plate. “Try this. See if it’s too sweet. Mrs. Alvarez told me you’ve been craving sweet and sour pork ribs lately. Why the sudden craving for sweet dishes?”

He spoke casually, not really expecting an answer.

Emma smiled faintly. “When you’ve tasted too much bitterness, you naturally start to crave something sweet.”
