Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 222

He was standing outside the door, peering in. When he didn't see Emma, a worried expression slowly crept onto his face.

Kelly paused in the middle of changing the sheets. After a moment of hesitation, she put down the duvet cover, walked over, and opened the door.

“Can I help you?”

“Hello, is Emma here?”

Nathan took a step back, speaking very politely to the woman who was only half a head shorter than him.

“Oh, Ms. Hayes went out. If you need her, you can come back this afternoon,” Kelly explained.

Nathan’s brow furrowed. He was surprised to hear this. “Out?”

“Isn’t it too soon for her to be discharged?”

“It is. Ms. Hayes said she had something to take care of and that she’d be back later.”

At this, Nathan knew there was no point in asking more. He nodded lightly, said thank you, and then walked quickly to the elevator, leaving the maternity ward floor.

At nine o'clock the previous night, Emma had sent Evan a text, reminding him not to forget the marriage certificate for their ten o'clock appointment.

She had told him about it last week, but knowing how busy he was, she worried he might forget, so she sent a reminder.

At 9:52 AM, Emma arrived early at City Hall.

Since her body was still recovering, she had simply thrown on an ankle-length down coat to leave the hospital. Warmth was the priority; looks didn't matter.
