Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 216

“Ms. Hayes, is something wrong?”

Emma tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and forced a smile, pretending nothing was wrong. “No, I just ran into my soon-to-be ex-husband.”

Soon-to-be ex-husband?

What kind of newfangled term was that?

Hearing this, Kelly couldn't help but glance back at the man who had been arguing with Emma.

He was tall and slender, his suit impeccably tailored. But now, he stood frozen in place, his shoulders slumped in defeat. His back was to them, so she couldn't see his expression.

Evan remained rooted to the spot, his mind completely blank, as if it had stopped functioning altogether. He was only subconsciously trying to figure out how to get Emma out of there.

Using force was definitely not an option. Emma was stubborn; she responded to persuasion, not pressure.

So, what was he supposed to do?

Evan turned his head in a daze, looking at Emma, who had already taken a seat on the other side of the waiting area. People milled about, and the atmosphere near the operating rooms was heavy and subdued.

Daniel walked over to him and clapped a hand on his shoulder. He was about to say something when Evan suddenly snapped out of it. He strode toward Emma, and then, before anyone could react, he did the unthinkable.

His legs buckled, and he dropped to his knees right in front of Emma, in full view of everyone.

“Emma, I’m begging you. Please…”

Evan’s whole body began to tremble. His eyes were red-rimmed and filled with agony as he looked up at her.

“What are you doing?”
