After eleven years together, no one should have known Emma's personality better than Evan.
She loved children—adored them—and she was an incredibly soft-hearted and kind person. That was why, back in Riverside Millford, her decision to have an abortion had genuinely hurt him.
But after returning to Averton City and having some time to think, he started to believe she might be bluffing.
Evan had convinced himself that Emma was just using the threat of ending the pregnancy as a lie to force the divorce and get rid of him for good. He didn't dare think any deeper, so he had done his best to push it all out of his mind.
But today, Daniel's text message had shattered that self-deception.
He tore into the hospital and ran straight to the obstetrics and gynecology department. The moment he saw her standing opposite Daniel, still talking to him, Evan rushed forward without a second thought.
"Emma!"
Seeing Evan, Emma's brow furrowed in annoyance, but her expression quickly returned to neutral.
"What are you doing here?"
Her tone was placid, as if she were asking about the weather.
Her question sent a surge of anger through Evan.
"You're asking me? I should be asking you what you're doing here!"
His brow was tightly knitted as he stared at her, his eyes filled with disbelief. "You're coming with me. We're leaving."
He was trying his best to control his temper to avoid a scene.
But the moment his hand touched her wrist, she shook it off without mercy.
"Are you insane, Evan? You know exactly what I'm doing here."
