Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 188

"No, he's not. Didn't you forget that scarf of yours? He was worried you'd be cold, so he went to bring it to you. Aren't you two together right now?"

Evan had come into the city?

Emma's expression darkened, but she hid it from Mrs. Hayes. "No, he left right after he dropped it off. I thought he was already home."

"Oh, I see. Well, he's not back yet. Give him a call and see when he'll be home."

After a bit more small talk, Emma hung up.

Beside her, Eric was still oblivious, wolfing down his pizza. Seeing her hang up, he asked curiously, "What's up, Emma? Evan came into the city too? How come I didn't see him?"

It wasn't just him; Emma hadn't seen him either.

She thought back on her trip to the airport and then lunch with Nathan. She hadn't been paying any attention to whether someone was following them.

A knot of worry formed in her stomach. After thinking it over, Emma opened her messaging app and sent a text to Evan.

[Emma: Mom said you came to Riverton City. Where are you? I didn't see you.]

As expected, there was no immediate reply.

Emma locked her phone. Once Eric finished his pizza, they got in the car with Lucas and headed from the city back to Riverside Millford.

In the car, Eric sprawled out on the back seat, rubbing his full belly. "Evan is so good to you, Emma. You just go out for a day, and he's worried you'll get cold without a scarf. He even came all the way into the city to bring it to you. A guy like that is one in a million. You better hold on to him!"

Eric sighed wistfully, but Emma wasn't in the mood to listen.
