Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 183

"Didn't you just say you were going into the city to see an old classmate?"

Mrs. Hayes continued dishing out porridge, completely missing the panicked look on her daughter's face.

"We're going into the city?"

Evan looked at Emma, then added, "Alright, I'll let Lucas know."

Lucas was the dedicated driver Jason had arranged for them here in Riverside Millford.

Evan’s status had reached a point where he needed a driver no matter where he went.

Today's trip to the city was to pick up her medication, so Emma certainly didn't want Evan to come along. She had mentioned the trip to her parents, originally planning to just catch a cab from town and go to Riverton City by herself, but now…

"Don't trouble yourself. I can just go alone."

In front of her parents, Emma's tone wasn't cold, just calm as she tried to reason with him. "You should just stay here. You don't need to come with me."

Evan didn't respond. He stirred the porridge in his bowl with his spoon, then asked quietly, "Which old classmate? Is it someone I know?"

His tone was just as calm, but Emma still felt an uncomfortable edge to it.

"You don't know them. They were in my class in high school."

Though their high school had been small, with only six classes per grade, Evan's class had been two doors down from hers. So, it was true that he wasn't familiar with most of the people from her class; he might not even remember any of them.

Afraid he would ask more questions if she stayed, Emma put down her bowl and spoon and stood up. "I'm full. I'm just going to go rest upstairs for a bit."
