Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 181

When Evan came out of the shower, it seemed Emma was already asleep.

All the lights in the room were off. In the pitch-black space, he could only make out the faint lump on the bed, illuminated by the moonlight filtering through the window.

Evan turned and closed the door, moving quietly as he approached the bed. He didn't even turn on a lamp, not wanting to wake the woman sleeping there. He got into bed in the dark.

He lifted the covers, and the warmth inside was a stark contrast to the cool air of the room. Evan lay down and, by the light of the moon, looked at the person sleeping beside him.

Emma was lying with her back to him, still and silent. In that moment, a sense of peace he hadn't felt in ages washed over him.

He turned to face her, scooting a little closer. He gently wrapped an arm around her waist, closed his eyes, and decided not to think about anything else.

Emma slept soundly until the first crow of a rooster woke her.

She slowly opened her drowsy eyes and stared at the white-curtained window, which was now a block of bright light. It took her a moment to remember that she was home, in her family's house in Riverside Millford.

A scene that had appeared in countless dreams was finally a reality when she woke up this morning.

A wave of melancholy washed over her, but before she could dwell on it, a hand on her waist gave a gentle squeeze. Emma immediately turned and realized Evan had been sleeping pressed right up against her back all night.

His eyes were still closed, as if he were deep in sleep.

Fury flared in Emma. She swatted his hand off her waist, threw back the covers, and sat up.

Normally, her lazy nature would have her lounging in bed for a while longer, but with Evan there this morning…

She quickly got dressed and slipped out of the room before he could wake up.

When she went downstairs, her parents were already up and making breakfast in the kitchen.
