Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 177

Evan chuckled.

Seeing Emma on the bed, acting as childishly as a pouting kid, he walked into the room and gently closed the door.

Emma kept her head buried under the covers. She just didn't want to see him, and besides, she was freezing.

"Don't hide your head under the blanket. It's not good for your breathing."

The man had walked over to the bedside and was leaning over slightly, a gentle smile still on his lips. He placed a hand on the thick comforter and gently nudged the woman who was wrapped up like a cocoon.

"Emma…"

There was no response or movement from under the covers.

Evan simply smiled again, patiently and gently coaxing her. "If you're cold, I'll have someone come install a new unit with heating tomorrow, okay? Just don't bury your head under the covers. Come on out…"

As he spoke, he gently tugged at the blanket covering her head. He was about to say more when, a sharp slap echoed in the room.

"Evan, will you give it a rest!"

Emma threw the blanket off her head, her brows furrowed in annoyance as she glared at the man standing by the bed.

She hadn't held back when she slapped the back of his hand. In the short time they had been talking, a red handprint with five distinct fingers was already visible on his skin.

He noticed it, his gaze lingering on his hand for just a second before his face returned to the same gentle smile, as if nothing had happened.

"Emma, don't be angry. I was just worried about you breathing with the blanket over your head…"

He explained patiently, as if he were born with a mild and courteous temperament.

Seeing him remain completely unchanged after she had yelled at him and slapped him so hard, a strange sense of fear crept into Emma's heart.

She had known him for eleven years and was all too familiar with his short fuse. This sudden change in personality was becoming more and more terrifying.
