Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 169

Upstairs in the bedroom, Emma opened her special edition white suitcase and pulled out box after box of gifts.

“Why did you buy so much!”

Even though she knew her daughter was bringing gifts, Mrs. Hayes was truly surprised by the sheer quantity.

“It’s not that much. This is just some skincare and beauty products. Over there are the clothes, shoes, and bags I got for you.”

Emma knew her mother loved to look nice and dress up, so on this trip back, she had specifically picked out a pile of items she thought were beautiful and stylish.

Mrs. Hayes picked up an orange box from the bed. Inside was an exceptionally beautiful plaid scarf.

“Oh my! This must have been expensive, right?”

Although she didn't recognize the luxury brands, one look at the packaging told her these things weren't cheap.

Emma smiled, took the box from her hands, removed the scarf, and wrapped it around her mother’s neck. “Not at all. It came with the purse. Here, do you like this pattern?”

Mrs. Hayes looked down, stroking the vicuña wool scarf around her neck. She admired the luxurious yet understated pattern of interlocking brown, tan, and cream stripes. “It’s beautiful, but at my age, what do I need such a nice scarf for!” she said.

But the delight in her eyes was impossible to hide.

Seeing this, Emma smiled too. “You can wear beautiful clothes and nice scarves at any age. And you’re still so young, you should definitely dress up!”

“Young? Oh, please!”

Mrs. Hayes gave her daughter a playful, scolding look, but the smile never left her face.
