Elena looked as if she had just solved world peace. "I can go to the fifth floor to cheer for you first, and then run down to the fourth floor for him!" She snapped her fingers triumphantly. "Perfect!"
By the time they finished talking, they had arrived at the cafeteria. They grabbed their food and found a quiet corner. Just as Maeve picked up her silverware, she caught sight of a familiar face out of the corner of her eye. She paused, a slight frown forming on her face.
Following Maeve's gaze, Elena spotted Leah Ford. Shielding her mouth with her hand, she lowered her voice. "Leah Ford is the second major thing I was going to tell you about. Remember when Anya Morales exposed that video of Leah bullying Daisy Duke online? According to Aethelburg University's rules, someone committing an act that vile should have faced major disciplinary action or straight-up expulsion. But guess what?"
Just thinking about it made Elena furious. "Rumor has it Leah's dad bribed Mr. Yates to keep her from getting expelled. Then, Daisy publicly claimed that the video of her getting slapped was just an act she put on with Leah."
Maeve looked surprised. "An act?"
Elena scoffed. "Leah claimed that to raise awareness about school bullying, she and Daisy teamed up to film a 'documentary.' The viral video was supposedly their masterpiece."
The more Maeve heard, the more absurd it sounded. "And what does Daisy have to say about this?"
Elena sighed. "Daisy is a low-income student scraping by on subsidies and financial aid. Under the combined pressure from the administration and the Fords, the truth can easily be buried, and lies become facts. Plus, did you know she was specially admitted by Mr. Sterling? With Mr. Sterling out of the country, Mr. Yates has full control over the campus. It's a well-known secret that they despise each other. Any student favored by Mr. Sterling is a thorn in Mr. Yates's side. Protecting Leah while silencing Daisy is his way of openly declaring war on Mr. Sterling."
