Chapter 543 Endless Regret
Since their sister wanted to stay here alone and speak to her father, they weren’t about to be insensitive.
The fact that she came at all this time was already a shock-and a rare, fragile kind of joy.
After everything that happened again and again, they were no longer the same foolish people they used to be.
So, they left quietly. No one went over to disturb her.
“I’ll wait in the car. If you need anything, call me.”
Jeremy said gently, then naturally leaned in and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
He knew Amelia wanted to be alone with her father for a while-even if it was at a funeral.
Amelia was moved by how considerate he was-by the way he understood her without being told. It made her feel, again, that she’d chosen the right person.
Everything was already understood. No extra words were needed.
After they left, only she remained.
It was a funeral, and with only her here, the place felt eerie and barren.
But Amelia didn’t feel afraid at all. If anything, she finally had a moment of quiet.
She stared at her father’s face-now only a black-and-white photograph-and that unspeakable ache inside her slowly spread again.
She had countless things she wanted to tell him. All the words she’d held back for so long surged in her chest like a tide.
But when they reached her lips, nothing came out.
She just sat there, staring at the black-and-white photo on the wall.
Amelia reached out, her fingertips brushing the cold edge of the frame, as if she could touch her father’s warm cheek that way.
She remembered how, when she was little, he’d lift her up high and spin her around, how he’d “magically” produce her favorite lollipops when she came home from school, and how he’d clumsily comfort her whenever she was wronged.

Those small, warm moments now felt like dull knives, sawing at her heart again and again until even breathing hurt.
She opened her mouth, buthher throat felt blocked by something unseen. Only a few strangled sounds escaped.
She wanted so badly to tell him she was back-that she wouldn’t misunderstand him that she’d learned to communicate, to meet people halfway.
anymore,
She wanted to tell him she’d metssomeone truly good-someone who would protect her the way her father once did.
She wanted to tell him that the people who hurt her-she wouldn’t let a single one of them go.
Regina. Gianna. Esmond. And the people stood behind them.
Not one of them would be spared!.
But now they were separated by life and leath. Everything she wanted to say could only be spoken to the cold air.
Tears finally spilled over, sliding down her cheeks and dripping onto her black collar, blooming into a dark stain.
Just then, a faint sound broke through her thoughts.
It was very soft, but she still caught it.
Amelia lifted her head slightly and looked towardiit.
She saw a woman in a wheelchair, slowly pushed by a maid, to the front of her father’s memorial.
Amelia didn’t look surprised by her appearance.
Everyone had wanted to hide it from her, notwaning to shock her again.
But something like this-how could it be kept searcat forever?
Emery looked at her biological daughter, sitting alone in front of her husband’s memorial.
For a moment, she felt dazed.
How she wished none of this were real.
Once, the future she’d imagined was a family of six, happy and whole.
Especially the birth of their youngest daughter-it had been their greatest joy.
After three sons in a row, having a daughter felt like the biggest blessing, a gift straight from above.
They used to dream about how they’d raise her, watch her grow, and one day walk her down the aisle.
