By now, Patience had probably seen how much Maxwell had changed. She had seen that he truly regretted what he had done and that he was sincere about her and about Amelia. And deep down, she still had feelings for him.
Since their breakup, neither of them had been with anyone else. So Patience let go of the painful memories of the past and chose to start over. It was a good outcome. Truly the best kind of happy ending.
"I'm jealous," Marcelo said with a sigh. "I wanted to make up with Isabel too, but she wants nothing to do with me now. She's already with someone else and about to get married."
Watching Maxwell get his second chance only made him feel worse. He wanted to reconcile with his former fiancée, but she had already left him behind for good.
"It is a shame. Isabel was a good girl. The only person to blame is you for not cherishing her when you had the chance."
Amelia felt sorry for her oldest brother too.
But life was never perfect. Not every couple that broke up would find their way back to each other.
Besides, theirs had been an arranged match. It was not exactly a love story born of free choice. At most, they had grown attached over time, or perhaps simply decided the other person was suitable enough.
Maxwell and Patience were different. They had met, gotten to know each other, and fallen in love. They had chosen each other because they genuinely liked each other.
"Exactly. Who told you to act so full of yourself back then and let Gianna lead you around by the nose? She drove a wedge between you two, and you fell for it."
Now that Maxwell had won his girl back, he had started taking smug little shots at his brother.
Marcelo looked at him with a half-smile. "That's rich coming from you. As if you weren't manipulated and brainwashed by Gianna too."
The two brothers were seconds away from going at it.
"Alright, enough. That's all in the past now. Let's not keep bringing up old things. When the time is right, the right person will show up."
Amelia stepped in as the peacemaker.
The two of them immediately fell quiet.
After everything they had been through, neither of them would really do anything to hurt their brotherhood again.
The Nygards were more united now than they had ever been.
Maxwell quickly put on a grin. "Amelia is right. Marcelo, you'll definitely meet someone even better. Unlike Miguel. At this rate, I doubt he's ever going to marry anyone."
To avoid hurting brotherly feelings, he slyly shifted the spotlight onto Miguel instead.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Amelia looked confused.
Miguel was still painfully single, and no one had ever really heard him mention dating any woman, but that didn't mean she was ready to conclude he would never marry.
"Heh! I'm serious. He's definitely not getting married."
