Chapter 471 Cracks Behind the Perfect Smile

In front of these wealthy wives, she should have been the one everyone envied. She had a happy marriage and successful children. That alone was enough to make others jealous.
On the surface, her life looked flawless. But Amelia’s decision to run away from home was a thorn in her heart.
At every gathering, Emery felt uneasy. She worried someone would bring up Amelia. She feared the perfect image she worked so hard to build would fall apart because of her.
Not far away, Regina was quietly watching Emery. When she saw how confident and pleased Emery looked, Regina felt sick to her stomach:
Regina didn’t speak much. She only exchanged a few casual words with Harmony now and then.
She had heard everything Emery said to the other women.
Regina sneered inside.
What a fool! Enjoy this while you can. The higher you stand, the harder you fall.
You seriously think your husband is loyal?
Please. No man is truly clean.
All crows are black, and men are no better.
The wine tasting continued. They sipped top-grade wine, but the talk had no substance. It was called a tasting, but no one cared about flavor.
They were there to gossip and brag. That was the real point of the gathering.
Regina didn’t fit into their conversations, and she didn’t try to.
She was proud by nature. Regina would rather sit alone than flatter a group of fools.
In her eyes, most of these rich wives had no real ability. They were simply lucky, married well, or born into the right families.
Of course, Regina didn’t come for nothing. She had a target in mind.
When Emery stepped away to the restroom to fix her makeup, Regina followed her.
“Mrs. Nygard,” Regina said with a warm smile, “you truly live up to your reputation. You look elegant and dignified. After meeting you today, I finally understand the praise.”
Emery paused and looked at her, clearly surprised.
“Do I know you?” she asked.
She quickly searched her memory. Was this a friend? A business partner’s wife?

Regina laughed softly. “I just returned from overseas not long ago. We met once at a high-society event abroad. You probably don’t remember.”
“Oh, I see,” Emery replied calmly.
She gave a polite response, then turned back to the mirror and adjusted her outfit, her expression already distant again.
Although Emery wasn’t a scheming person, she carried herself with clear pride.
She had standards, and she knew her place.
When she faced women with similar family backgrounds and status, she was gentle, polite, and warm. She smiled easily and spoke kindly.
But the woman standing in front of her now was different. Emery clearly didn’t recognize her.
She wasn’t a familiar face in their circle. She also didn’t look like the wife of any well-known family. Because of that, Emery felt there was no need to engage much.
A polite reply was more than enough. There was no reason to be overly friendly or give her any special attention.
“Mrs. Nygard, your outfit and makeup are very elegant,” Regina said with a smile. “Everything looks refined and tasteful. I hope I can learn from you in the future.”
As she spoke, Regina casually raised her hand and lightly touched her ear, as if without thinking.
The jewelry she wore today was from a ruby collection.
It was eye-catching and impossible to ignore. A woman like Emery, who had seen countless luxury items, immediately noticed something unusual.
“Your look is lovely too,” Emery replied calmly. “That pair of earrings, along with the matching pieces, looks like a design collection from Waylin, don’t they? That designer typically designs for the royal family of Freque.”
Regina widened her eyes, looking surprised. “Oh my, Mrs. Nygard, you really have sharp eyes,” she said quickly. “You recognized it right away. That’s amazing.”
After praising her, Regina once again touched her earrings, slowly and deliberately, as if making sure Emery could see them clearly.
“Yes,” Emery said without hesitation. “That designer only created one set. There are no replicas. That’s why it’s so memorable.”
She wasn’t trying to show off. She was simply stating a fact.
