Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 571

Miranda was stunned, her face flashing with surprise. "Mom, who on earth is trying to harm you?"

Rosemary gave a bitter smile. "Who else could it be? I originally thought that if he was truly worried about whether I lived or died, he would regret his choice, and I could forgive him. But in the end, he disappointed me yet again."

Hearing this, Miranda slowly put the pieces together, finally guessing who the Jensen matriarch was talking about. "It was Jensen, wasn't it? How could he do such a thing?"

That was his own mother!

Rosemary took a deep breath. "What other reason could there be? It's all because of those shares. I didn't plan to give him Cloudcrest Medical Group, not because I didn't want to, but because he simply doesn't have the aptitude for business. Plus, he has Ilse by his side, who has been covetously eyeing the Howard family's assets. It's a pity he doesn't understand that I had his best interests at heart. Even if he accomplished nothing his whole life and just lived quietly, what I've given him is more than enough to provide for his family comfortably. But perhaps I never truly understood him, or cared about what he wanted."

Miranda got up and helped the Jensen matriarch lean back against the headboard, tucking a pillow behind her. "Could Ilse have encouraged Jensen to do this?"

"Whatever the case, I see the situation clearly now." After saying this, Rosemary's thoughts shifted, and she placed her hand over Miranda's. "Miranda, you're the eldest daughter of the Sutherlands, yet you've worked so hard for the Howard family for so many years. I truly see you as my own daughter. But… do you resent me for my insistence on Evander marrying Charlotte?"

Miranda's expression stiffened unnaturally, and she lowered her head. "It's all in the past. It wouldn't be right to say I still hold a grudge."

Rosemary nodded with a smile. "So, you did resent me at one point."

"Mom…"

"I know you did it for Evander," Rosemary said, anticipating her words. "You saw the choice he made back in Riverspire City. The children are grown up now. As their elders, we can no longer protect them as if they're still naive kids. They have their own aspirations, and whatever path they choose, we as mothers sometimes need to know when to let go. Otherwise, it ends up like me and Jensen… a mother and son growing further and further apart."

Miranda's eyes welled with tears, and she turned her face away. "But it's useless to say all this now…"

"How is it useless?" Rosemary patted the back of her hand reassuringly. "Evander isn't dead, you know."

Miranda froze abruptly.
