“You will never be able to escape him.”
Natalie’s cold, hollow tone left Marie feeling as though the very air were being squeezed from her lungs.
She used to feel such a thrill watching Natalie being exploited by Martin Doyle, seeing her saddled with such a despicable father. But now, she was being told that this despicable man was her own biological father.
Everything she had ever possessed actually belonged to Natalie, and she was about to lose it all.
Suddenly, Marie felt something hit her hard. Her hand went limp, and the shard of glass clattered to the floor.
Terence’s cold voice cut through the room. “Marie, you deliberately avoided the main artery. You know it’s not fatal, so why are you putting on a show and wasting everyone’s time?”
Terence could see that although Marie was acting hysterical, as if she were cutting her wrist in a fit of rage to threaten Richard and Elaine, she had been careful to miss the vital artery.
Terence’s words made Marie’s face drain of color, and a deep unease settled in her heart.
Richard refused to sign the agreement. He was already suspicious, and the situation was turning against her. She couldn’t let this go on.
Marie looked at Elaine and whispered, “Mom, everything’s going dark... I think I’m losing too much blood. I’m so sorry, Mom. Maybe in another life, I can be your daughter. I’m sorry, Mom, Dad. I can’t be here to take care of you anymore. Mom, Dad… I’m going to join my brother.”
She said this deliberately, knowing that Elaine, who had just lost her son, couldn’t handle another loss.
Marie then pretended to faint. As expected, the shock was too much for Elaine, who pulled Marie into her arms and let out a piercing, agonized scream.
