Marcus Ward’s words stunned everyone.
Why would even Marcus say that? Could Marie really not be a Ward?
“Did you hear that? Marcus said Marie isn’t his sister!”
“Maybe Marie and Natalie really were switched by Kate Verdan!”
The crowd’s murmurs reached Marie, and her expression turned icy.
She said, “Marcus, how could you say I’m not your sister? You’ve doted on me more than anyone since we were little. No, that’s not right. My brother wouldn't talk to me like this. You’re not my brother, are you? You must be an imposter this woman hired and had plastic surgery to look like my brother. You’re a fake!”
Marie then pointed at Natalie and said, “Natalie, you’re so cruel. My brother is already dead, yet you found someone to undergo surgery to look just like him. My parents might not be able to tell the difference in their grief, but you can’t fool me.
“You’re just trying to trick my parents and swindle the Ward family out of its fortune, aren’t you? You’re despicable.”
Natalie said coldly, “Whether he’s real or fake isn’t for you to decide. Do you really think your parents can’t even recognize their own son?”
Marie’s face was grim, but she remained stubborn. “Mom, Dad, he’s not my brother. My brother is already dead. Don’t let them fool you.”
Natalie said, “You claim he’s dead. Are you sure you saw his body?”
Marie’s expression froze. That day, Natalie had deliberately scared her. Believing Marcus was dead anyway, she had used the excuse of paying the bills to avoid seeing his body.
She never imagined there was a whole scheme at play. So Natalie had been setting a trap for her from the very beginning.
