The hand Richard held the pen with began to tremble, his face growing paler by the second.
Marie sensed that something was wrong. It seemed they suspected her. If this continued, she would lose everything.
“Dad, I’ve been asking you for so long, why won’t you sign? Are you doubting me again? Why is it that every time someone says something, you start to doubt me? How can you do this to me? I’m your biological daughter. How can you keep suspecting me?”
Marie suddenly swept all the inheritance documents off the table. The papers scattered across the floor like her ambitions shattering before her eyes.
“Marie, what are you doing?”
Elaine Ward grew anxious seeing Marie become hysterical.
“Mom, Dad, how many times have I told you? Natalie is a master manipulator. She’ll make you believe I’m not your daughter so you’ll kick me out and she can take my place.
“It’s such an absurd idea. At the beginning of the evening, everyone thought it was ridiculous. But somehow, she found a way to make everyone believe this nonsense.
“I don’t even want to explain anymore. Do I have to die for you to believe I’m your daughter? Will she only stop trampling all over me if I’m dead?”
With that, Marie smashed a glass on the floor, then picked up a sharp shard and held it to her wrist.
She said, “If you’d rather believe she’s your daughter, then I’d be better off dead.”
Marie immediately slit her wrist. Blood spurted out in an instant.
Elaine and Richard were terrified. Perhaps neither of them had thought she would actually do it.
