Natalie looked at Terence, moved. She never expected him to say something like that.
He was clearly the one in power, the one on the pedestal, so why did he treat her like a gift from heaven?
Edgar Lockwood pointed a furious finger at Terence. "You've really lost your mind. You're a Lockwood! You could marry any woman you want. Why do you have to choose this social pariah?"
"How is our Natalie a social pariah? When she was bringing glory to the country, you could have checked the news if you didn't see it," Catherine Lockwood said, fiercely defending Natalie. Edgar's face darkened.
Mrs. Lockwood ignored him and turned anxiously to Natalie. "Natalie, have you seen today's news?"
"I have, but it doesn't matter. They can say whatever they want."
Natalie assumed she was talking about the articles calling her two-faced, claiming she was pretending to be a victim while secretly doing unspeakable things to the monster, which drove him to suicide to expose her.
She had glanced at the news and then closed it.
Mrs. Lockwood could tell Natalie didn't know about the other story.
"Natalie," Mrs. Lockwood said urgently, "there's something that will definitely surprise you. Take a look."
Mrs. Lockwood handed her phone to Natalie, who took it and read the screen.
She saw the article stating that she and Marie were born in the same hospital at the same time. The report even hinted that she might be... the heiress of the Ward family.
How could that be?
Mrs. Lockwood's gaze was determined. "Natalie, you're not Martin Doyle's daughter, and you already proved that Marie isn't the Ward family's daughter. Now someone has confirmed that you were both born in the same hospital at the same time. This proves that you are the real Ward daughter."
Natalie froze. She had never considered this possibility.
But if the news report was true, that she and Marie were indeed born in the same hospital at the same time, and the DNA tests proved she wasn't Martin Doyle's daughter while Marie wasn't the Wards' daughter, then it was highly likely she was the real Ward daughter.
How could this happen?
"Excuse me, I need a moment."
Natalie suddenly ran off and locked herself in her room.
She couldn't accept this reality. She didn't want her biological parents to be the Wards.
They had treated Marie like a precious treasure while constantly belittling her for Marie's sake.
Even before the incident with Marcus Ward, whenever she ran into them during her five years with the Cross family, they never gave her a pleasant look.
She knew it was all because of Marie.
