They never would have imagined that their son's tragedy was caused by something so absurd: the discovery that the daughter they'd raised for over twenty years wasn't their own.
It was a ridiculous reason!
Richard seethed, "Marie, you're an animal. Even if we found out you weren't our biological daughter... we raised you for over twenty years! Even if we found our real daughter, we would never have turned our backs on you. How could you? How could you murder Marcus for that reason?
He was the brother who doted on you the most. You're not even human!"
Elaine's eyes were bloodshot. "Marie, you're a monster! We were so good to you for all these years. How could you do that to Marcus? Who are you? And where is our real daughter?"
Elaine grabbed Marie by the shoulders and shook her violently, looking as if she wanted to strangle her.
"No, no, I am your daughter! Everything Natalie said is a lie!"
Marie was past the point of shame, stubbornly refusing to admit she wasn't a Ward.
She couldn't lose everything she had, and she certainly couldn't face losing it all just to end up in prison.
Natalie watched Marie's panicked, helpless denials with cold satisfaction.
She was finally getting the punishment she deserved.
"Marie, you're still lying. The report proves you aren't our daughter, yet you keep denying it! Who are you? When did you find out? Where is the real Ward daughter? And how did you harm my son, Marcus? You better start talking, because we're going to make sure you spend the rest of your life in prison!"
