“I’ve booked a table at the Empyrean. Let’s go get some seafood.”
Nicholas was practically buzzing with excitement as he invited Natalie to dinner.
He had booked the entire restaurant, had it filled with roses, and had the freshest ingredients flown in specially for the occasion.
He had put a lot of thought into their candlelight dinner, but he tried to maintain a cool, casual demeanor on the surface.
“The Empyrean is the most expensive restaurant in Eldoria City. A meal there costs a fortune. Thank you for thinking so highly of me, but I’m sorry, I have to get back to work.”
Nicholas was stunned.
She was turning him down! This couldn’t be happening. He had put so much effort into this. How could she not go?
“Natalie, why are you going back to work again? Didn’t that nice Mr. Mercer give you time off?”
“The institute gave me leave, yes, but I have another job. I’m the Lockwood family’s private physician. I need to go back and prepare Terence’s medicine.”
Nicholas knew that Natalie was living with the Lockwoods because of her job.
He immediately grabbed her arm. “Why are you working two jobs? Are you short on money? If you are, I can transfer you some right now. You don’t have to work so hard.”
“I don’t find it hard,” Natalie said calmly. “My days are full, and it feels good to know that every dollar I spend is one I earned myself.”
Knowing how stubborn she could be, Nicholas quietly put his phone away. “Fine. If you won’t accept my money, then you can’t refuse to have dinner with me. You have to eat, no matter how busy you are. Besides, you promised.”
Nicholas looked so dejected. He had never been this flustered with a woman before, and he was terrified that all his careful planning would go to waste.
Natalie checked the time on her phone. “Alright, then. We can grab a quick bite.”
At her words, Nicholas’s face lit up.
