Unable to speak, Liana stomped hard on Hanley's foot, her cheeks puffed out in anger.
No one was allowed to say bad things about her daddy.
Hanley hopped on one foot. Liana looked so fragile, but that stomp made him feel like his foot was broken.
“Liana, are you an elephant? Why does that hurt so much! Mommy, look at Liana!”
“You said something bad about their dad right in front of them,” Natalie said. “Weren’t you asking for it?”
“Mommy, you’re taking their side again! Can’t you even tell who your real child is?”
“You are my child, which is all the more reason I should teach you what respect means.”
“You don’t have to explain, Mommy. You just want to be their stepmom. You want to marry into the Lockwood family, so you’re sucking up to them.”
Hanley glared at Lucas and Liana. “My mommy is only being nice to you because she wants to marry into this family. Once she’s secured her position, you’ll see whether she’s still nice to you or to me, her real son. You two are so stupid. Instead of looking for your own mom, you’re chasing after someone else’s. No matter how much you beg and plead, my mommy will never be your real mommy. A stepmom will always be a stepmom, and she’ll never be good to you!”
Hanley’s words hit Liana hard, and her eyes welled up with tears.
Natalie had been so good to them. How could she be pretending?
Seeing his sister’s heartbroken expression, Lucas quickly comforted her.
“Liana, you know Natalie is genuinely good to us, right? If you believe what Hanley said, then everything she’s done for us would have been for nothing.”
At her brother’s words, the sadness in Liana’s eyes vanished.
