Lucas and Liana didn’t want to influence or pressure Natalie, but if she was leaving, could she take them with her?
“But you’re Lockwoods. You have to stay here.”
“Natalie, my sister and I don’t have to be Lockwoods,” Lucas said immediately. “We can take your name.”
Liana nodded eagerly, looking very serious.
Natalie was stunned. Was that even possible?
Outside the room, Terence was speechless.
He had asked them to help him win Natalie over, not help her run away. Did they not understand the objective?
Seriously, could they get a clue?
Just as Terence was about to step in and handle the two kids, Hanley stormed forward. “Hey, what do you two think you’re doing? You already stole my spot in the advanced program, and now you’re trying to steal my mommy? You’re Lockwoods, so why should you take my mom’s name? Don’t you have your own mommy? Why do you have to steal someone else’s?”
Hanley unleashed on Lucas. The fact that Natalie was his mother was slowly becoming a point of pride, something he could even use as a weapon against them.
“Hanley, you will not speak like that. Apologize to Lucas and Liana.”
“I won’t apologize! Am I wrong? They’re Lockwoods, so why should they take my mommy’s name? They’re obviously trying to compete with me for her affection and steal her away! Why don’t they go find their own mother instead of trying to steal mine?”
Hanley deliberately raised his voice, not just to provoke Lucas, but to get back at him for stealing his thunder at school.
