The mechanic entered, his eyes scanning the room before settling on Marie. He studied her intently.
Marie quickly looked away, her heart nearly stopping.
She'd only been there once. There was no way he'd remember her.
She prayed silently.
Terence asked, "A year ago, did this woman bring a red Ferrari to your garage for maintenance? And during the service, did she ask you to explain the structure of the braking system?"
"Yes. I've only seen her once, but I remember her clearly. You might laugh, but my garage is in a pretty remote area. I don't usually get luxury cars worth hundreds of thousands. Most of my business is regular cars.
And it's rare to meet a female driver who's so interested in the mechanics of her car. She kept asking me to confirm details about the brake system. That's why she stuck in my memory."
Marie was speechless. She had specifically chosen a remote garage to avoid being noticed, but that had only made her more memorable.
Terence's gaze was icy. "Marie, the Ward family has a designated service center for all of your vehicles. Why did you drive to a remote garage by yourself and repeatedly ask about the brake system? Did you suddenly have a thirst for knowledge?"
Her parents stared at her, still unwilling to believe the worst.
Marie's eyes widened in shock. "I remember now! A year ago, I was driving and heard a strange noise from the engine. I happened to see a garage on the side of the road, so I pulled in to have it checked. It was just a coincidence. As for the brakes, I'm the one driving the car, so of course I'd be worried about accidents. I take my safety seriously. Is there a problem with me asking questions to be responsible for my own life?"
She would deny it to her dying breath.
