“What?”
Adrian thought he must have misheard, asking again after a moment of stunned silence.
Being sterile was one thing.
But not being able to have a physical relationship? What did that mean?
Dr. Lawson was very direct. “You’re impotent.”
Adrian was rendered speechless.
Daniel broke out in a sweat. It really was a hot summer.
He spoke up, asking, “Can it be treated? What about with Ms. Hayes’s medicine?”
Dr. Lawson replied, “I’m not sure about that. You’d have to ask Ms. Hayes. All I know is that the test results show impotence.”
*Please, stop saying that word,* Daniel thought.
He politely saw Dr. Lawson out.
Returning to Adrian’s side, he said, “Don’t worry, sir. It could just be a side effect of the trauma. Maybe it will get better with time.”
Adrian was silent for a long moment. “You said I took the X-1 she gave me?”
“Are you implying that… she did this?”
It was hard not to be suspicious.
After all, Isabel had poisoned Adrian before.
But their current relationship was incredibly fragile.
Daniel said, “Mr. Blackwell, I don’t think she would…”
Suddenly, a thought struck him. “But her right hand is still weak. She called that boy, Edmund, to help her. So…”
Perhaps Edmund had slipped something into the medicine when Isabel wasn’t looking.
But that would need to be verified.
“I’ll look into it. If your wife comes, please don’t ask her about this. If you’ve misunderstood, your relationship with her…”
The words had barely left his mouth when the door to the hospital room opened.
Isabel walked in.
She had her hands in her pockets and wasn't carrying anything.
Clearly, this wasn't a social visit.
“How are you?” she asked directly. “Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?”
Daniel’s heart sank. *Could it really have been her?*
He felt it was best not to stay and slipped out of the room.
Inside the room.
Isabel was surprised for a moment. “Impotent?”
Daniel nodded, looking like he wanted to say more but held back.
An idea seemed to occur to Isabel. She went to find Dr. Lawson again to look at Adrian’s medical records.
“Overall, his recovery is going very well. I heard he took a special version of X-1 that you prepared. The restorative power is truly astonishing. However, the bone in his right leg will still need time to heal.”
“Of course. My medicine just has strong regenerative properties; it’s not a miracle drug that can cure everything.”
In truth, using the drug on Adrian had been a desperate measure.
He was in the ICU, and every second counted.
If he had been moved to a regular room right after surgery, she wouldn’t have planned on giving him X-1.
After reviewing the pathology report and his vitals, Isabel had a good idea of what was going on.
She said goodbye to Dr. Lawson and returned to the research institute.
She called Edmund into the lounge to talk.
“What did you do?”
He was, after all, a very smart kid. There was no need to beat around the bush.
So she asked him directly.
