So she wasn’t surprised to see him standing at her door.

She tried to get Oliver to go inside first, but he refused. “I’m protecting Mommy.”

Adrian felt a headache coming on. He controlled his temper and said, “I’m not going to do anything to your mother.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Oliver said, standing in front of Isabel with his little fists raised. “You made Mommy cry earlier.”

Adrian couldn’t argue with that, but he hadn't meant to. He just wanted to clarify a few things.

Besides, if they were going to work together, they couldn’t keep up this hostile dynamic.

Right now, the thing he feared most was Isabel getting angry or crying.

But what was done was done, so he didn’t try to explain.

He just held out the gift. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said what I did.”

“I’m not here for your forgiveness. I just know you want this partnership, but you’re hesitating because you hate me. I don’t want you to get angry later, so I came to apologize.”

Adrian promised solemnly, “If it makes you unhappy, I will definitely stay away.”
