Aurora Walton and Lucas Carter novel Chapter 1697

“Kenneth… what are you doing here?”

Judy’s voice carried a hint of excitement, completely different from the cold tone she’d used with Joseph moments ago.

The shift made Joseph’s chest tighten. In just a few short months, she’d changed into someone he barely recognized. The warmth she once had for him was now reserved for another man.

Kenneth’s expression was firm. “If I hadn’t shown up, who knows what this lunatic might’ve done to you.”

Joseph’s jaw clenched. “What the hell are you talking about? Judy and I are the ones who’ve been together. We share years of memories. You’re the one who came between us.”

Kenneth let out a short laugh and reached over to pull Judy gently to his side. “I don’t even need her to choose. Anyone can see who really belongs with her.”

Joseph froze, his stomach twisting. The confidence in Kenneth’s voice was like a slap in the face. And the worst part was—he was right to be confident.

Judy hadn’t come back. She’d stayed by Kenneth’s side all this time, refusing to answer his calls and see him.

That said enough.

Joseph could feel the truth sinking in, heavy and bitter. But after everything they’d been through, after all those years, how could he just let go?

His gaze darkened as he stared at Judy, a mix of anger and heartbreak burning in his eyes.

Deep down, he already knew the answer—he’d lost her. But accepting it was another matter entirely.

Joseph was never the type to give up easily. Once he made up his mind, he would see it through to the end.
